You want to be retired too, right?

As a streamer collective that is strongly against capitalism (see our Welcome Home blog for more information about who we are and our mission statement), instead of getting pulled under by the dredge of society, we prefer to take a more optimistic approach. The Cool Gamer Retirement Home does what we can to support small businesses, mutual aid funds, and charity. With so much negativity crashing over us, it’s important to us to have a positive impact on the world.

We want ourselves and future generations to be able to enjoy retirement for as long as possible. But there’s some work to do to combat the evils of manufacturing and pollution. If we want our Retirement Home Cruise Ship to enjoy smooth sailing, we have some cleaning to do.

CGRH is raising money for #TeamSeas

Charity Stream events are something we hope to do with increasing frequency as we grow, both as individual streamers and as a streaming collective. We will be raising money for Ocean Conservancy through #TeamSeas. They focus on removal of trash from oceans and beaches around the globe to help protect vulnerable ocean spaces.

Every dollar raised during our fundraiser equates to one pound of trash removed from the ocean. Your donation has a real, visual, and quantifiable effect on our ocean ecosystems. The Cool Gamer Retirement Home would like to raise enough money to remove
222 pounds of trash from the ocean for 2022. It’s a visually appealing number that brings us trace amounts of serotonin just by looking at it. We hope it invokes a similar response in our community.

Week-Long Stream-a-Thon

One of the first games streamed by the Cool Gamer Retirement Home was Raft, an indie sandbox game about what happens if we ignore climate change. It’s peaceful, charming, macabre, and cozy game, rich with lore and a very important message. We have one planet, and we need to take care of it.

RedriaPlays and JudgeOFudge (dubbed Plant Witch Gigi and RPG Gramps in our streamer collective) played through this game during their Married Streams in Summer 2021. Together, they built up a nice sustainable ship, farmed and tended livestock while at sea, and removed trash from the ocean to repurpose it – expansion, storage, furniture, tools, and more.

As a forward scout in a post-apocalyptic flooded world, you’re quite lonely as you drift from island to island in search of habitable land. The game’s narrative weaves you through various encampments that were previous attempts at forming a surviving community. You get to read journals and notes to piece together what became of them. It’s heartfelt, and awe-inspiring, and somber, all in one.

Every day, from February 7 – February 12, the Cool Gamer Retirement Home will be streaming Raft! We will be building our dream retirement home cruise ship together and sail around, showcasing what this lovely game has to offer.

How can you help?

We have a collective link to our fundraiser on Tiltify, and each streamer will have an individual link that is connected to our main cause. If we reach our goal of $222 raised during the event, the CGRH will put on a TTRPG bonus livestream! Individual streamers may have their own fundraising rewards and incentives, so be sure to check them out.

Times are tough, and money is tight. Financially supporting our campaign isn’t the only way you can help. Hosting our streams will boost their visibility and bring them to the front of Twitch’s recommended streamers section.
