What is a streamer collective?
A streamer collective is a group of streamers across a multitude of platforms that share similar values and a joined vision on content creation, entertainment, and streaming as a whole. Twitch has multiple stream teams, usually founded by someone who is partnered with Twitch. Streamer collectives can exist outside of Twitch and act as a network of creators.
What is the Cool Gamer Retirement Home vision?
We are dedicated to creating a safe space for streamers of all caliber to figure this streaming thing out together. Along with embracing diversity, the Cool Gamer Retirement Home stream team has a unique anti-work stance. We want to support as many small businesses, content creators, and freelance workers to pursue their dreams as far away from the dredge of capitalism as possible. Fostering a creative space in our fictional retirement home, away from the stresses of the modern work environment, helps make room for collaboration and celebration of who we are as individuals.
Can you be anti-work while streaming on Twitch, owned by Amazon?
The irony is not lost on us. Twitch is one of the quickest paths to monetization as a small fledgeling content creator. We are not necessarily streaming to make a profit, but there are ways to support streamers off of Twitch. Those are avenues we will encourage, not require, within our community.
Can I be a part of more than one streamer collective?
Yes. This may vary from group to group, but the Cool Gamer Retirement Home does not require exclusivity of its members.
What is expected of me as a member of the Cool Gamer Retirement Home?
In order to join the Cool Gamer Retirement Home, we are looking for people who share our vision and are actively working to grow and carve out a welcoming and inclusive space for their communities. Active members are preferred – a strict streaming schedule is not required, but having active members to join our team and participate in events, collaborations, and the Discord server would be ideal. There is no obligation to remain active or spend XX time in other people’s streams to become or maintain membership in the Cool Gamer Retirement Home; when you have the time and energy to pay it forward and support our own, it’s greatly appreciated. We are a low-effort, low-obligation streamer collective. We do some community game nights once a quarter and charity events throughout the year (e.g., PrideCraft in June, Souptember in September, both benefiting discussed-and-agreed-upon charity organizations). Participation in collective events is appreciated and not required.
Do metrics have an impact on the application process?
No. The Cool Gamer Retirement Home was founded by six people who were just starting out streaming. None of our founding members had reached Twitch Affiliate status prior to the creation of our streamer collective. The Cool Gamer Retirement Home encourages streamers who connect with our vision to apply, whether they have been streaming for a while and carved out a space for themselves and their viewers, or are just starting out, or anything in between.
What are the benefits of joining a streamer collective?
For starters, you will receive your very own channel within our Cool Gamer Retirement Home Discord server. It will be themed after a room in the home. This can be a great place to start growing your own fan base instead of creating your own Discord server. Note that you can do both. You also can select a moniker for your retired persona if you’d like. We at the Cool Gamer Retirement Home put a lot of energy into supporting one another, even if you are just a part of our community and haven’t joined the streamer collective. You can expect this kind of support to continue if you decide to start a streaming journey with us!
What are the different membership levels and their expectations?
As we are a chill stream team that puts a focus on personal health and growth above hobbies, our expectations are straightforward and simple. As a basic member of the streamer collective, the expectation is to respond to administrative concerns in a timely manner or to forfeit having a say in the matter. There’s no expectation to stream a certain amount – only to alert the team to any hiatus. Communication is key.
If you would like to step up your involvement, a moderator status might be a good fit. As a moderator, the expectation is to be active within the Discord, both watching new members to help cultivate a safe space and eliminating bots. We would also appreciate moderators assisting with at least one charity campaign a year, either by participating or planning.
Lastly, there’s an admin level for our more dedicated and involved members. Admins help with planning and organizing events for our Discord community. They also will play a bigger role in charity campaign planning and organizing, either by helping to create a schedule of streams/events, making graphics, or deciding on charity bingo prizes. Admins can help with social media posts and promotions, website updates, and blog posts.
The CGRH is not actively recruiting new stream team members at this time, but we are always happy to welcome new community members to our discord.
